intentions
it was my intention to post something of more substance but instead i spent most of the night making a CD for a co-worker. this is more of an exercise than anything.
i would like to eventually write almost everyday. or at least once a week. improves my story telling abilities.
so why was a CD for a co-worker more important than posting substance? Education.
two days ago when i came to work wearing my new MP3 player i was quizzed about my choice of music. i happened to be listening to Portishead, which my co-worker had never heard of, and which i described as "really depressing electronic music" along with the unnecessary "they're british" disclaimer. i let him listen to a snip-it to which he brightly responded "i know of this band you'll like"
(sigh)
they ALL know of a band i'll like. very, very few of them ever come up with
a:something that i haven't already got
b:something that doesn't suck
oh well. i try to give everything a chance. "the benefit of the doubt" so they say.
today he comes in with two CDs for me. the band is "Opal" the title of one is "happy nightmare baby"
cute enough. i laughed.
He explains that this band is pretty old and that he thinks the lead singer committed suicide. that a way the rest of us won't have to, he says.
all right! i say. way to take one for the team!
its good to have someone with a similar sense of humor around.
anyhow. both CD's sucked. so i have spent the night creating him a mix CD of trip hop. whether or not he likes it, at least he will be well educated on the subject.
here's what Wikipedia has to say on the subject:
wikipedia
and i must go.
lovely
