fucking amazing biblical story written from the perspective of women. now among my top ten favorites of all time.
The Bookseller of Kabul by Åsne Seierstad
an enlightening look at a modern islamic family from a variety of perspectives. love the clash "between the forces of modernity and tradition."
Naked in Baghdad-The Iraq war as seen by NPR's correspondent by Anne Garrels
told by one of sixteen non-embedded journalists who stayed in Baghdad throughout the American invasion. also, shes an old lady. an old lady who made me regret boycotting all news coverage of the war for years.
Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach
informing, disturbing and above all halarious. this lady's writing an research style reminds me a lot of our beloved katie.
Sarah by Marek Halter
don't waste your time. had elements i enjoyed but overall was crap. author who is male writing from a female perspective or should i say author who is obviously male is writing from a female perspective.
The Hemingway Book Club of Kosovo by Paula Huntley
excellent book that makes me appreciate the vastness of human compassion. made me cry at work more than a couple times. got a little over 3/4 of the way through, took a week off and when i got back it was gone. desperately want it to reappear soon.
A Million Little Pieces by James Frey
currently reading. awesome so far! true biographical story of a drug addict/alchoholic. gives me the jibbly-jibblies something fierce. lets just say the man has two caps put on and two root canals to fix his ruined teeth but because hes in rehab they can't give him any anethesia during or painkillers after.

As it turns out James Frey is a total fraud. Jerk.
so, his fraudulence has suddenly turned his writing into something less compelling?
he gets worse press than Bush lately.
all this guy did was write a book....
