A Real Job

I knew this was the last year Bob Westgate was going to be teaching at Sonora High. I had good intentions to contact Bob and find out more about that possible job opening.
I finally found out about the application process on the day of the deadline. The day before Celtic Faire.
Physically there was no way I could possibly meet the deadline, so I tried not to think about how I'd screwed up a once in a lifetime opportunity by not taking initiative.
Then a friend from the bay area came up to stay with us. He had an interview. I was convinced I should apply regardless of having missed the deadline.
They wanted someone with more darkroom experience than he had.
I have that.
I started to get my shit together. That included recent letters of recommomendation, transcripts, a copy of my degree, resume, references, application and cover letter/ letter of introduction.
I contacted former employers and instuctors that I hadn't spoken to in years. They were all overjoyed to hear from me. It was amazing.
Everyone I know has been wonderfully encouraging and supportive.

The deadline was extended.

I have an interview on Wednesday.
I want this job.
I have walked on fire and broken a board with my bare hands.
I can do this.

Also, I'm nervous.

For The Love of Bad Hair Days

On April first my dreadlocks turned one year old. I was gonna throw a party but since we just moved...

Anyhow, I love them. Its like having a living wild animal attached to my head. Some days it's friendly, some days its angry. They have a mind of their own and a personality separate from mine. You never know what they're gonna do.

You must have somewhat thick skin for this particular hair way of life(not so much a style) as you look really stupid the first month or so and then on and off from then on out.
Although in retrospect I can't imagine the hair looking stupider than the scarf I wore to work the first week. About the third time my boss asked me to tell his fortune I'd had it. The hair came out.

So a big hug and thanks to Janet for spending all day teasing my hair and drinking martinis! Another big hug for elex. Thank you for documenting this day. I love you Both!
